How do the bonus dollars work?

Arkansas Community Foundation will add additional bonus dollars on top of the gifts from your donors received on ArkansasGives day. For each donation you receive through this site, you’ll get a prorated portion of our bonus pool. The more money your donors contribute, the greater the portion of bonus dollars you’ll receive from the bonus pool.

What forms of payment will be accepted?

We will accept Visa, Master Card, Discover, American Express and debit cards online.

When will I know how much my nonprofit receives?

On ArkansasGives day, we will post updates on this website, Facebook, and Twitter as gifts are received. It will take us a few days after the event to calculate the portion of bonus dollars each participating nonprofit will receive.

Back to questions.

When will my nonprofit receive the donations?

Within 3 weeks of ArkansasGives, your nonprofit will receive a check for the total of the donations collected that day plus the bonus dollars added by Arkansas Community Foundation.

Back to questions.

Will I know who made a gift to my nonprofit?

All donor contact and gift information received during ArkansasGives will be sent to the respective organizations unless the donor requests to remain anonymous. Donors will automatically receive a tax acknowledgement email immediately after they complete their transaction, but we encourage your organization to follow up with a separate thank you note or phone call.

Why am I not listed as a participating nonprofit?

Nonprofit organizations and other tax-exempt charitable organizations may participate if they:

  • Are headquartered in Arkansas or have a base of operations in Arkansas.
  • Are a member of the Arkansas Nonprofit Alliance
  • Have 501(c)(3) tax exempt status under IRS code AND are qualified as a 509(a)(1), (a)(2) or (a)(3) organization or a private operating foundation. To determine whether your organization has 501(c)(3) and 509(a) status, refer to your IRS determination letter or use the IRS website to look up your status (in this database, if your organization is listed as PC in the Deductibility Status column, you are eligible). If you need assistance, email Lisa Duckworth at Arkansas Community Foundation, or call 501-372-1116.

If your nonprofit meets these qualifications, please complete and submit an application.

Back to questions.

Why must our organization be a member of Arkansas Nonprofit Alliance?

The Arkansas Nonprofit Alliance exists to strengthen the organizational capacity of nonprofits, connect them to resources and advocate for the sector, both at the state and national level. Beyond a single day of giving, ArkansasGives is about building the capacity of our local nonprofit sector, and we believe that joining our state’s association of nonprofits is an important part of increasing the strength of individual organizations and our industry as a whole.

Back to questions.

Why must our organization have both 501(c)(3) AND 509 (a)(1), (2) or (3) status?

People who make donations through ArkansasGives will be able to claim a tax deduction for their gift; therefore, we must ensure that the organizations that are the end recipients of these gifts are qualified tax exempt organizations. The most clear-cut determination of an organization’s official charitable status is the IRS 501(c)(3) designation, which determines whether the organization is exempt from federal income tax, and its 509 (a) status, which determines whether a donation to the organization is tax deductible.

To determine your organization’s 501(c)(3) and 509(a) status, refer to your IRS determination letter or use the IRS website to look up your status (in this database, if your organization is listed as PC in the Deductibility Status column, you are eligible). If you need assistance, email Lisa Duckworth at Arkansas Community Foundation, or call 501-372-1116.

Back to questions.

Can churches/religious congregations participate?

Yes, if they have received 501(c)(3) nonprofit status from the IRS.

Back to questions.

Can our nonprofit accept cash/check donations from donors and then make a corresponding gift from a company credit card through the ArkansasGives site?

No, nonprofits cannot donate funds back to themselves on behalf of cash/check donors. All gifts should be made by the donor by credit card through ArkansasGives.org (although if the donor needs some assistance entering info into the website, it’s fine for a nonprofit rep to provide assistance) between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. on April 7. When in doubt – consider whether any action would be in keeping with the spirit of the event: 1) new donations 2) raised online 3) during a single 12-hour period. Read more about our cash/checks policy here.

Back to questions.

Can our nonprofit host an auxiliary ArkansasGives event or activity?

Yes, but we ask you to please abide by a few event guidelines to keep things running smoothly. PLEASE READ THE FULL GUIDELINES HERE.
