Back to questions.

Why is 2017 the final year for ArkansasGives?

Arkansas Community Foundation is thrilled with the response of donors in Arkansas to the hard work from almost 600 participating nonprofits. When we began the ArkansasGives event, we had some specific goals:

  • Get people excited about giving to nonprofits at a time other than the traditional year-end and reach out to new givers.
  • Expand marketing and fundraising capabilities for Arkansas nonprofits so that they can take advantage of social media and online giving to achieve their missions.
  • Increase awareness of the impact of nonprofits statewide.

We believe that with one more event, we will help raise much needed funds for nonprofits statewide and significantly increase their fundraising and marketing capacities for the future. Read more here…

What’s different for nonprofits and donors in ArkansasGives 2017?

  • Participating nonprofits are no longer required to be a member of Arkansas Nonprofit Alliance.
  • Donors will no longer have the option to give anonymously.

When will I know how much my nonprofit receives?

On ArkansasGives day, we will post updates on this website, Facebook, and Twitter as gifts are received. It will take us a few days after the event to calculate the portion of bonus dollars each participating nonprofit will receive.

Back to questions.

When will my nonprofit receive the donations?

Within 3 weeks of ArkansasGives, your nonprofit will receive a check for the total of the donations collected that day plus the bonus dollars added by Arkansas Community Foundation.

Back to questions.

Will I know who made a gift to my nonprofit?

All donor contact and gift information received during ArkansasGives will be sent to the respective organizations unless the donor requests to remain anonymous. Donors will automatically receive a tax acknowledgement email immediately after they complete their transaction, but we encourage your organization to follow up with a separate thank you note or phone call.

Why am I not listed as a participating nonprofit?

Nonprofit organizations and other tax-exempt charitable organizations may participate if they:

  • Are headquartered in Arkansas or have a base of operations in Arkansas.
  • Have 501(c)(3) tax exempt status under IRS code AND are qualified as a 509(a)(1), (a)(2) or (a)(3) organization or a private operating foundation. To determine whether your organization has 501(c)(3) and 509(a) status, refer to your IRS determination letter or use the IRS website to look up your status (in this database, if your organization is listed as PC in the Deductibility Status column, you are eligible). If you need assistance, email Lisa Duckworth at Arkansas Community Foundation, or call 501-372-1116.

Back to questions.

Why must our organization have both 501(c)(3) AND 509 (a)(1), (2) or (3) status?

People who make donations through ArkansasGives will be able to claim a tax deduction for their gift; therefore, we must ensure that the organizations that are the end recipients of these gifts are qualified tax exempt organizations. The most clear-cut determination of an organization’s official charitable status is the IRS 501(c)(3) designation, which determines whether the organization is exempt from federal income tax, and its 509 (a) status, which determines whether a donation to the organization is tax deductible.

To determine your organization’s 501(c)(3) and 509(a) status, refer to your IRS determination letter or use the IRS website to look up your status (in this database, if your organization is listed as PC in the Deductibility Status column, you are eligible). If you need assistance, email Lisa Duckworth at Arkansas Community Foundation, or call 501-372-1116.

Back to questions.

Can churches/religious congregations participate?

Yes, if they have received 501(c)(3) nonprofit status from the IRS.
